June marks the start of something special for Idaho Women In Leadership! Join Matt Pipkin & Idaho Women In Leadership for our first panel discussion, Navigating Difficult Conversations. At this session, learn how to prepare for and engage in productive discussions and create an environment that reduces stress, increases trust and improves relationships.
Matt is the Founder & CEO of WeVow. In late 2017, Matt began to see headline after headline of sexual misconduct involving high-profile individuals in Hollywood, network news, and business. Around the same time, Matt learned that his wife, Ashley, had experienced sexual misconduct at a former workplace event and didn’t know what to do about it. Matt knew he had to do something about it and created WeVow.
We Vow is focused on helping organizations make a public promise to build a culture of safety and trust and take a clear stance against sexual misconduct.
Matt also founded a nonprofit, Speak Your Silence. Speak Your Silence was founded in 2012 by Pipkin who was sexually abused by a trusted family friend at age 6. Believing he was at fault and fearing he'd devastate his family, Matt carried his secret burden for twenty years. A few years back, he finally shared his story, was overwhelmingly loved by his family, and sought counseling. This process changed Matt's life, as he realized his innate value and worth.
Recognizing the magnitude of the problem and its deep role in so many other social issues, Matt became frustrated so few innovative and scalable solutions existed. He believed that creative ideas and a warm approach were needed in order to shift the cultural dialogue. When people feel safe and at ease, they share their stories and come together to solve big problems.
